A world you can keep entering
This is more than a deck of images. Mountains and Seas Legends Tarot is an unfolding mythic world: every card opens into a complete character story, and every reading reveals another route through that world.
A 78-card physical tarot deck · Beginner-friendly · RWS-compatible
A beautiful Chinese mythology tarot deck for beginners and curious readers. Explore the Shan Hai Jing through 78 RWS-compatible cards and a companion guidebook.
The world
Mountains and Seas Legends Tarot begins where the familiar map ends. Mountains behave like omens, creatures carry human desire and fear, and deities stand at thresholds of grief, courage, love, ambition, and change.
Each card connects a recognizable tarot archetype with a complete mythic character and story. Together, the 78 cards form a world readers can enter through a single image, a full spread, the guidebook, and the stories that continue beyond the first reading.
Why this deck reads differently
Mountains and Seas Legends Tarot keeps the familiar RWS reading structure while expanding what each archetype can reveal.
This is more than a deck of images. Mountains and Seas Legends Tarot is an unfolding mythic world: every card opens into a complete character story, and every reading reveals another route through that world.
New to tarot? The complete 78-card deck follows the familiar Rider–Waite–Smith (RWS) structure, so you can learn with widely used tarot resources. The companion guidebook connects card meanings, myth background, and reading prompts. Experienced readers can explore a new mythic world within a familiar system.
Gods and beings from the Classic of Mountains and Seas are redesigned with beauty, intimacy, and emotional clarity. Their original oddities remain visible; the artwork simply gives modern readers a more inviting way to approach them.
Faces, hands, borders, color, symbolism, creatures, and composition have been reviewed and revised again and again. Small visual clues and mythic Easter eggs reward readers who return to a card over time.
In the hand
The deck is being tested as a real reading object, not only as a set of images. Pearlescent surfaces catch warm light without swallowing the artwork, while borders, titles, and symbols remain clear across a spread.

Selected cards

Tao Tie. Tao Tie turns appetite into a mirror: desire can animate a life, and unexamined hunger can begin to consume the person who feeds it.

Lu Wu. Lu Wu gathers will, skill, and chosen tools into one clear act. Mastery grows through balance, attention, and disciplined presence.

Yu Fu. Yu Fu suspends ordinary direction. What looks like stillness becomes a change of current, perspective, and surrender.

Manman. Manman turns partnership into a living practice. Trust, reciprocity, and chosen commitment allow two distinct lives to move with one purpose.
The guidebook
The planned printed guidebook runs to hundreds of pages, bringing together card meanings, upright and reversed readings, myth background, image symbolism, prompts, and practical reading guidance.

The physical deck
Materials are chosen for beauty, clarity, durability, and shuffle feel. We have tested 24 finish combinations to balance image quality with the smooth, practical handling a working tarot deck needs.

Current prototypes are still being refined. Final manufacturing specifications will be confirmed on Kickstarter.
